TEHRAN – Iran failed to advance to the world handball finals in Germany as it conceded a narrow 21-20 loss to Qatar in the third-place playoff of the Asian Nations Cup in Thailand Tuesday.

The defeat left Iran ruing scoring chances it squandered in the deciding match.

Qatar beat the Iranian team with the same result in the preliminary round.

South Korea and Kuwait had already won tickets to Germany.
